Service Challenge-What I have Learned…

  • I have learned that there is always time to serve our fellowman.
  • Serving my family is also part of the service challenge. We mothers don’t give ourselves credit for what we do at home. To serve is the sweetest gift Heavenly Father gives us, and by doing this we then can practice and serve others with a happy heart.
  • Every time I serve or do something kind for someone I am helping me to be a better person
  • I don’t have to do something big.
  • The smallest thing is the biggest thing.
  • The more I serve the more I learn about life and I can feel the Savior’s love nearer to me.
  • Sometimes yes, I need to make an extreme effort to achieve my goal, and it is ok.
  • The more I serve the more I don’t think about me. My problems become smaller and smaller. Almost gone.
  • The smallest acts of service are the big ones.
  • There are so many people alone needing love and company all the time. It is not only during Christmastime that we can reach out.
  • It was a nice experience.
  • I couldn’t help everyone, and it is ok.
  • Heavenly Father is watching over and He will send the person or situation to us. However, we need to be more watchful for people or situations around us.

Day 12-Helping finding a boy

As a family we searched for two hours for our neighbour’s child who is ten and he was lost for five hours. My family and I were looking for the boy for two hours and a half without luck. Everybody was looking for him in the neighbourhood. All the information we had was that he was wearing a Boy Scout shirt and dark pants. We searched everywhere.  Finally at ten thirty at night we found out some other neighbour found him. It was a relief!

Day 11-Helping in the Christmas Party or not…

On Saturday we had our ward Christmas party. The activity community leader asked us to help with the “A Night in Bethlehem” activity. It was so much fun, I thought I was going to count this as my service of the day. Well, somebody was already helping in the post we supposed to be helping. So we stayed later to help with cleaning I guess I can count this as a service of the day. It was a very magic night. The sister in charge of this event is a very talented one. She worked for everything to go the way it did. Perfect!

With my companion we stopped at our sister’s houses for the second time in the month. It was a very neat experience since they weren’t expecting us. It was nice just to be able to be with them and chat. The day was cold and grey. By spending time with our sisters made the day look different. I am glad they let us do it.

Day 9-Family Home Evening

Pre-School Promise

I made four family home evening packages for a friend. These activities are very fun to do with small children. My children are not very small but they still like to play games and do fun activities during FHE. It was fun to re-do it for some one I had promised for quite some time now. I hope she enjoys doing these activities as much as I do with my family.

Not long ago a learned how to make tamales. My friend decided she was going to teach me how to make tamales as her service of the day. I thought it would be a great idea for me now to make the tamales I learned how to make for someone else. Making tamales is a lot of work, but it is so worth it.

Day 7-Helping Dad

Today I went with my family to church and helped my husband to clean up his office. His calling is the ward clerk. We helped him organize the church office in a way he could work better.  Being the ward clerk is not an easy task, for those of you who work in an office know and feels what it is like. So today I served with my family and it was fun! office

Today as a family we fasted for a friend who is not having a good time. It was a neat experience as a family. The kids were very willing to do it, even though they don’t know this person that well.

Well, it was very cold today and I wasn’t be able to do much for someone besides my family. So, what  I did for my family today was to do something extra. I helped my family to organize their clothes and their rooms. It was fun to see how much they enjoyed their rooms organized and extra cleaned! I would like to share what my family is doing during this time. They have, also, taken the challenge. My children are helping in school and they getting involved with their activities more than usual. My husband after going every single day for two weeks to church for tithing settlement, he offered to help my parents with their heater at home.

Day 4- A Ride

The ride was to the Stake Center. Somebody needed to get her/his Temple recommend signed to be able to go the Temple. It was a nice ride. All the way to the Stake and the way back from the Stake was filled with Christmas stories this person shared with me when the kids were littler. It always amazes me how much I learn from doing these little service. I really think I am being the one served. Always something new to learn from! The Lord truly knows us.
